Hi, I’m Julie nice to meet you.

I am an experienced teacher and school leader. I have worked in many different school environments across the UK and Internationally with children of all ages.

I have had many roles throughout my career such as class teacher, Literacy Leader, Assistant Headteacher, Digital Safeguarding Lead and school Curriculum Lead, and more recently that of Specialist Dyslexia Teacher. I now teach specialist one-to-one multi-sensory literacy lessons, helping children achieve their true potential.

Skills and Experience

I am a qualified Specialist Dyslexia Teacher accredited by the British Dyslexia Association. I have taught many children with a range of special educational needs. I create Individual Education Plans, set academic targets, and adapt work and teaching methods according to the needs of the child.

I have delivered I: I bespoke dyslexia specialist lessons to children up to 18 years of age, both online and in person.

I foster a supportive and inclusive environment where children feel safe and valued. This sense of safety and respect is the foundation of our learning environment, providing a solid ground for learners to build their confidence and skills.

I help learners develop a positive self-image through a growth mindset, overcoming challenges, and building confidence and self-esteem.

My Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is founded on the belief that each learner has unique strengths and the potential to achieve their goals. I believe learners can be successful when we, as educators, recognise their individual needs and provide personalised support that maximises their potential and helps them to achieve their academic and personal goals.

My Specialist Teaching Approach

Multisensory

I prioritise multisensory learning. This approach involves engaging multiple senses: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic, simultaneously activating different sensory pathways and making abstract concepts more memorable. For example, learners may trace letters in the sand while saying the corresponding sounds aloud or use coloured markers to break down words into phonemes.

Phonological Awareness

To reinforce phonemic awareness, I incorporate practical resources, such as wooden letters or textured letter tiles, visual aids, colour-coded word lists, and pictures, paired with auditory elements such as rhymes, mnemonics and songs.

Cumulative

I design my lessons to be highly structured and sequential, using a cumulative literacy program that ensures new concepts build directly on previous learning. Each lesson is carefully organised to progress in small, logical steps, allowing students to master skills before moving on to more complex material.

Overlearning

Overlearning is key to embedding learning into long-term memory. I regularly revisit concepts; this means practising sounds, words, reading and spelling skills until they become automatic through a range of fun and engaging activities.

Qualifications and Training

I am dedicated to ongoing professional development and strive to enhance my teaching practices, providing the highest quality of education for my learners.

I have completed a PG Cert SpLD (dyslexia) and have been awarded Accredited Teacher Status and AMBDA (Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association) by the British Dyslexia Association to teach learners with Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) up to and including 18 years of age.
